Freight Volumes slowly
trending upwards:
The US department of transportation tracked
that the freight volume will grow slowly and expected to pick-up well
in the mid of 2010.The freight services index remained unchanged in 2009
from Nov and the index ended in the year by upward.
Air
Cargo volume grows in January:
The major Chinese hub, Hong Kong
International Airports air cargo volume, showed significant growth in
January 2010,up 43.3% to 301,000 tones from January last year.
Authority Chief Executive Officer,
Mr.Stanley Hue said that the aviation market continued to rebound first
month 2010, particularly on the cargo side amid improving economic and
global trade activities.
EU to get tough with big time freight
forwarders:
Four prominent 3PLs have been charged by
the European commission with price fixing with DHL, Panalpina, DSV and
Kuehne Nagal to be colluding on surcharges.As per the commission, the
infringements are related to services from Britain to outside the 30
country European Economic Area (EEA).
Additional accusations include surcharges made to shippers from
the EEA to the US, from China to the EEA and from Southern China/Hong
Kong to the EEA.The air forwarders Association (AFA) remain vigilant in
advocating a fair,competitive price structure for air cargo, said
Brandon fried, the group’s executive director.” Price fixing costs
forwarders and shippers untold dollars by damaging the competitive
market place with regard to cost and service”, he added.
